TikTok Shop Seller Guide: Setup, Fulfilment & Integration Checklist

Paige Macera

TikTok Shop has moved from experiment to core channel for many UK retailers. Listing products is the easy part. Margin disappears on the operational side: stock that oversells, orders dispatched late, tracking that never reaches the buyer. Most of it traces back to how well your TikTok Shop integration holds up once volume arrives.

This guide answers what TikTok Shop is, how account setup works in the UK, how order sync should behave, which fulfilment options you have, and the common pitfalls that catch new sellers. It closes with a checklist to work through before you switch the channel on.

What Is TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop is TikTok’s native commerce layer. Buyers discover, browse and pay inside the app, with no redirect to an external website. Three formats drive most of the volume:

  • In-feed and video shopping: products tagged directly in organic or paid video

  • LIVE shopping: products sold during a live broadcast

  • Shop tab and product pages: a browsable storefront attached to your seller account

The affiliate programme sits alongside these, letting creators earn commission on products they promote.

Demand here is discovery-led, not search-led. A single video can multiply daily order volume without warning, which is why operational groundwork matters more than on a conventional marketplace.

TikTok Shop UK applies a platform commission of 9% on orders. Rates and category exceptions change, so confirm the current schedule in Seller Center rather than any third-party figure, including this one.

TikTok Shop Account Setup

Account setup is quick. Verification is where timelines slip, almost always because of document quality.

What to Prepare

UK registered companies need:

  • Company registration number from Companies House

  • Government-issued photo ID for a director

  • Proof of address or a recent bank statement

  • UK business bank account

  • VAT number, if you are VAT-registered

Sole traders need photo ID, a National Insurance number, proof of address and a UK bank account. VAT registration is not a condition of selling. It becomes mandatory once taxable turnover passes the HMRC threshold.

The Sequence

  • Create a TikTok for Business account using a business email address

  • Register on TikTok Shop Seller Center for the UK

  • Upload verification documents as clear, in-date, full-page scans

  • Wait for review, typically 1 to 3 business days

  • Configure your storefront: name, logo, returns policy and dispatch times

  • Link your UK bank account in payment settings

  • Publish products with images, video, descriptions, pricing and stock

Restricted categories apply, including alcohol, tobacco, weapons and certain health products. Check the policy before building listings you cannot publish.

Two Decisions to Get Right Now

SKU naming. Your product identifiers should match those your warehouse already uses, whether that is a spreadsheet, an ERP (the system running your finance and inventory) or a warehouse management system. Mismatched SKUs are the most common cause of a failed order sync.

Stock allocation. Decide whether the channel draws from your shared stock pool or a reserved buffer. Both work. Leaving it undecided does not.

Order Sync

Order sync means two flows moving reliably in opposite directions. Orders and buyer details travel from TikTok Shop into whatever system fulfils them. Stock levels, dispatch confirmations and tracking numbers travel back.

Manual handling works at 10 orders a day. It fails at 200, and it fails hardest during the exact spike you have been working towards. Three failure modes cause most of the damage.

  • Overselling. Stock sold elsewhere still shows as available. Cancellations follow, and they feed into your account health metrics. This is how marketplace algorithms penalise late dispatch and stock errors, costing you reach as well as revenue.

  • Late tracking. The parcel left on time, but the tracking number arrived late or not at all. TikTok Shop measures this as Valid Tracking Rate, and the window to correct a submitted number is roughly 36 hours.

  • Silent divergence. Two systems hold different views of the same order. Nobody notices until a customer asks.

An automated data flow removes all three. Neuro keeps inventory and order sync consistent across every channel, so a sale in one place updates availability everywhere else.

Fulfilment Options

UK sellers have three routes. They are not mutually exclusive, and most established sellers run at least two.

Option

How it works

Best suited for

Watch for

Seller-fulfilled

You pick, pack and dispatch, using your own carriers or labels bought through TikTok Shop

Sellers with warehouse capacity and negotiated carrier rates

Dispatch and tracking obligations sit entirely with you

Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT)

You send stock into TikTok’s UK warehouses, and TikTok picks, packs and ships

Fast-moving SKUs with predictable demand

Stock in FBT is committed to the channel, separate from your other stock

Third-party logistics (3PL)

A logistics partner fulfils your orders alongside your other channels

Multi-channel sellers wanting one stock pool

Integration quality varies by provider

FBT launched in the UK in 2023 and prices in three parts: storage, operations fees per item by size band, and shipping per parcel. Published UK rates start at £0.24 per cubic metre for the first 30 days of storage, £0.78 per item for the smallest operations band, and £1.99 per parcel for standard shipping. All are quoted inclusive of VAT and revised periodically, so confirm current rates in Seller Center.

The UK shipping policy governs the timings whichever route you choose. TikTok Shop cancels orders that sit unshipped for seven working days, and measures On Time Delivery Rate against the delivery windows in that policy. Fall below 90% and late delivery fees apply weekly, deducted from your seller balance. Repeated breaches escalate to order volume limits or a funds freeze.

How to Choose

Decide per SKU, not per account. Three questions settle most cases.

  1. How predictable is demand? Steady sellers suit FBT, where the delivery promise and the storage cost both work in your favour. Erratic or seasonal lines are better held where you can redeploy them.

  2. How much does the delivery promise matter? Where buyers compare dispatch speed, platform-run fulfilment usually wins on both speed and confidence. In considered purchases it matters less.

  3. What is your true cost to serve? Compare FBT’s fees against your own pick, pack and carrier cost for the same parcel, including the labour you spend correcting sync errors. The same process applies when routing orders between a platform fulfilment programme and your 3PL

Your fulfilment options determine cost per order. Your integration determines whether you hit the metrics that keep the channel profitable.

TikTok Shop Integration

TikTok Shop rarely operates alone. Most sellers arrive with Amazon, eBay or their own store already running, each holding a separate view of the same stock. An integration is the layer that reconciles them. It sits between your selling channels and the systems that fulfil them, so one sale anywhere updates availability everywhere. Done properly, four things happen without anyone touching a spreadsheet.

  • You stop overselling: sell your last unit on TikTok Shop and every other channel knows within moments

  • Orders arrive ready to pick: every channel feeds one queue, each order mapped to the right SKU and location

  • Your tracking metrics stay safe: dispatch confirmations post back to each channel inside its own required window

  • Each order goes to the right place: rules decide the warehouse or partner, whichever channel the order came from

Three approaches exist. Native app connectors switch on quickly but usually handle a single pairing, such as TikTok Shop to Shopify, which leaves every other channel to solve separately. Custom development gives full control and becomes your maintenance burden every time an API changes. An integration platform sits in the middle of all of them, which is what Neuro does: TikTok Shop alongside your other marketplaces, your own eCommerce platform, and your ERP, WMS or 3PL, connected once and monitored in one place. That is where traditional order management systems run out of road.

What to Ask Before You Commit

Four questions separate a working integration from one that fails quietly:

  • How often does inventory sync, and is it event-driven or scheduled? A 15-minute polling cycle is a 15-minute overselling window during a spike.

  • What happens when a sync fails? You want a retry, then an alert. Silent failure is the expensive answer.

  • Can rules route orders by location, SKU or value? This is what lets you split fulfilment between your own warehouse and a 3PL.

  • Who maintains the connector when the API changes? Marketplace APIs change without consulting you.

Those four questions are where general-purpose platforms struggle. Neuro is built for eCommerce rather than adapted to it, so the connector library covers over 150 marketplaces and platforms out of the box instead of requiring a build per channel. Routing rules are written in plain language, letting an operations lead change how orders split without a developer ticket.

Common Pitfalls

Treating the channel like a second web store. Demand is creator-driven and fluctuates. Plan capacity for the peak, not the average.

Running on manual exports. A CSV export is a bridge, not a system. It survives launch week and rarely survives the first viral video.

Ignoring account health until it costs money. Valid Tracking Rate and On Time Delivery Rate are leading indicators. By the time fees or volume limits appear, the damage is weeks old.

Splitting stock without visibility. Inventory across FBT, your warehouse and a 3PL is fine, provided one system shows the total. Three separate views is the real cost of channel expansion most brands miss.

Forgetting returns. Returns follow the fulfilment route. FBT handles its own, your 3PL handles theirs, and self-shipped orders come back to you. Map return flow alongside order flow or you will reconcile three processes by hand.

Assuming today’s rules are permanent. In early 2026, TikTok Shop moved to withdraw Seller Shipping for US sellers, then reportedly halted the change in February after seller pushback. That policy was US-only and did not land, but the lesson travels. Platform-controlled fulfilment terms shift at short notice, and a flexible integration is cheaper than a rebuild.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TikTok Shop in simple terms?

TikTok Shop is TikTok’s built-in shopping function. Buyers find products in video, LIVE streams or a seller’s shop tab, then pay without leaving the app.

Do I need a limited company to sell on TikTok Shop in the UK?

No. Sole traders can register with photo ID, a National Insurance number, proof of address and a UK bank account. Companies also provide a Companies House registration number.

How much does TikTok Shop charge sellers?

UK platform commission is 9% on orders, with payment processing and fulfilment costs on top. Confirm current rates in Seller Center, as fee schedules change.

Can I use my own 3PL with TikTok Shop?

Yes. Seller-fulfilled orders can be routed to any 3PL. Whether it works depends on the integration: your 3PL needs orders automatically, and TikTok Shop needs tracking back on time.

How long do I have to dispatch a TikTok Shop order?

Timings vary by shipping method and are set out in the UK shipping policy. Orders unshipped after seven working days are cancelled automatically.

How long does a TikTok Shop integration take to set up?

A single-channel connector can be live the same day. A multi-system setup involving an ERP or 3PL depends on how clean your SKU data is, which is usually the real constraint rather than the connection itself.

Getting the Operational Layer Right

TikTok Shop rewards sellers who absorb a spike without breaking. That capability is not a marketing decision. It sits in the data flow between the channel, your inventory and whoever ships the parcel.

Neuro keeps orders, inventory and tracking in sync across TikTok Shop and every other channel you sell on, automatically. Over 5,000 retailers run their channel operations on it.
